Rubin "Saved by the Bell"?

Thursday, April 8, 1999

With all the abuse he suffered in his high school years, Samuel "Screech" Powers was not expected to amount to much. With a new job as State Department spokesman, he has silenced his critics.

Now going by the name "James Rubin", Screech has been at the forefront of many press conferences. He says he changed the name because of many hardships he had to suffer during his ascension to his current post. "It was hard with all the people asking about Zach and Slater all the time," says Rubin. "It got to the point where it became a distraction."

Screech plans to continue his role in NBC's Saturday Morning Saved by the Bell: the New Class despite his current responsibilities. "It's something I enjoy doing" says Screech. Asked if he is still pursuing his love-interest, Lisa, Screech simply replied "She had her chance. Sure, I've gotten phone calls from her saying 'Oh, I've loved you all along', but you've gotta take such statements with a grain of salt."

Some critics point out that Rubin and Screech are in fact different people. "Screech isn't even a real person!" argues Armando Henriquez of the Boston Herald. "He was a character portrayed by actor Dustin Diamond!" Dr.X immediately squashed all opposition. "Dustin Diamond?!" the noble doctor exclaimed. "Clearly this Diamond character has tried to get some attention because he apparently resembles Screech, but I assure you that Screech and Rubin are, in fact, the same person. Anyone who disagrees with me is a blind fool."
